Domestic production of wheat, which constitutes the top item of Turkey’s agricultural products, rose to 21.5 million tons with an increase of 4.4 per cent in 2017.
According to the data of Turkey Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT), agricultural production of Turkey increased by 4.2 percent in cereals and other crops, 1.8 percent in vegetables, 9.7 percent in fruits in 2017. Production quantities of cereals and other herbal products rose to 68 million 61 thousand tons in the same period.
In this year, the production of grain products increased by 2.4 percent to 36 million 133 thousand tons. When compared to the previous year; wheat production increased by 4.4 percent to 21 million 500 thousand tons, barley production increased by 6 percent to 7 million 100 thousand tons, rye production increased by 6.7 percent to 320 thousand tons and oat production increased by 11.1 percent to 250 thousand tons. Among the important products of pulses; edible legumes increased by 9.0 percent to 6 thousand 847 tons, chick peas increased by 3.3 percent to 470 thousand tons. Among oilseeds, soya production decreased by 15.2 percent to 140 thousand tons.
