The United States of America was re-elected for a second consecutive term as the Agricultural Market Information System (AMIS) Chair at the 12th session of the AMIS Rapid Response Forum (RRF).

The country will be represented by Mr. Seth Meyer, Chief Economist at the United States Department of Agriculture, who thanked AMIS participants for the continued support in further strengthening the AMIS initiative.

The RRF meeting reviewed the current food market situation and outlook, recognizing the important contribution of AMIS in helping calm global markets, especially during the recent crisis years. Stakeholders agreed that providing timely food market information and a platform for policy dialogue have been instrumental in reducing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine on global food markets and averting turbulences similar to those witnessed in the past. In this regard, delegates particularly emphasized that countries imposed fewer restrictions to global trade compared to the 2007/08 and 2010 food price crisis.

Regular sessions of the RRF are convened once a year while the group can meet on an ad hoc basis if the food market situation signals a high degree of volatility and risk. This year's regular session was held on the margins of the 2nd meeting of G20 Agriculture Deputies hosted by the G20 Presidency of India.
