Carr’s Flour wins two awards at the prestigious Food Manufacture Excellence Awards 2021. The Awards recognise and honour the dedicated businesses and individuals for extraordinary achievements, innovation and success over the last 12 months.
The Food Manufacture Site Team of the Year went to the Carr’s Flour team in Silloth, Cumbria, for the extraordinary work of its employees during the Covid pandemic. The judges highlighted that just three weeks after a phone call from a major retailer’s head office, in the midst of the pandemic, the team had signed off and implemented all commercial, technical and logistical criteria to supply the retailer’s stores with Carr’s branded flour.
Carr’s was praised, as this process would usually take six to 12 months, and for executing this when there was a shortage in retail flour during the lockdown. The Silloth site also supplied bulk flour in the retailer’s packaging to help with supply.
Carr’s also won the Ingredients Manufacturing Company of the Year award, with the judges speaking of how the company – which has been producing flour for almost 200 years – supplies food manufacturers across the UK, using both British and imported wheat.
“These awards can be quite simply reflected back to the fantastic people at Carr’s Flour. Each and every person helped towards our win and it is wonderful that the team is given the recognition they deserve,” said Managing Director Rob Munro. “Not only that, the awards also help raise the profile the flour milling industry and remind people of the central role the sector has in feeding and nourishing the nation.”
Carr’s Flour have been milling flour for nearly 200 years. With mills at Kirkcaldy in Fife, Silloth in Cumbria and Maldon in Essex, the company supply bakeries and food manufacturers across the United Kingdom.
