This month’s guest of our magazine is Muhammad Khalid Pervez as the General Manager of Afzal Brothers Flour Mills operating in Pakistan. Afzal Brothers Flour Mills has a flour production of 10 thousand tons per hour in its total 12 facilities. Having 26-year history, the company works for the domestic market for now but Muhammad Khalid Pervez states that their goal is to open abroad in the next period.
Indicating that they would like to establish a new flour mill unit which will adopt same state of the art technology used in the large facilities of Turkey, Pervez gives the following information on their investment goals: “In future we want to adopt further new technologies like Automatic moisture control system and Automatic Color Sorter system. And for increasing our storage capacity we are currently working on installing silos.”
Expressing that the flour industry is one of the largest industries in Pakistan, Pervez says: “The future of flour industry is very bright in the Pakistan”. General Manager Pervez answers the questions of our magazine on their company and Pakistan flour industry.
Mr. PERVEZ, your company Afzal Brothers Flour Mills is one of the leading flour mills of Pakistan. Firstly, could you give some information on your company and how you have come to today?
Afzal Brothers Flour Mills was established in 1988. The initial capacity of our Flour Mill was 6 Bodies. Now with the grace of Allah Almighty we have a capacity of 12 Bodies. At first we were only producing whole wheat ATTA (Flour). With the passage of time as we adopted new technology and improve our industrial processes, we can now also produce MAIDA, FINE, SUJI and BRAN. Our wheat product now contains the following percentage:
• ATTA - 55%
• MAIDA -15%
• BRAN-15%
• FINE-10%
• SUJI-5%
What can you say about your product variety and the position of your company in Pakistan market? Which properties of your company distinguish you from your rivals?
Here at AFZAL Brother Flour Mill, we do not compromise on the quality of our product. We adopt strict quality measures to make sure that our product quality remains same throughout the year. We have a separate Technical Quality Experts team to keep a check n balance on the standard of our product. This team has two core responsibilities which are as following:
• Check the quality of wheat before going into the production
• Check the quality of product during production phase
It is due to our commitment to quality and quantity of our product that we have more than 150 Wholesale dealers (Customers) in Pakistan and the number is continuously increasing day by day. Could you give information on your facility, capacity and technologies you used? What can you say about the level of your company in capacity and technology usage?
AFZAL Brothers Flour Mill is a 12 bodies Mill, which mean that our production capacity per hour is 10,000 kg. We have a state of the art Automatic wheat cleaning and washing system. We also have an automatic wheat grinding system.
Are there any other fields you give service besides flour production? If there are other fields you working on or other products, could you give information also about them?
We have another industry names as Diamond bags. It manufactures plastic packing bags for Flour Mills, Sugar Mills and Fertilizers. It also manufactures the plastic color bag.
Are you working only for the Pakistan market in the flour milling industry? Are there any export activities or do you have any goals for export?
Currently we are working only in the Pakistani market but our future goal is to increase our production and export Flour and MAIDA to other countries.
As Afzal Brothers Flour Mills, what is your future goal for the investment and market objective?
Our future business goals are very clearly defined in our minds. We want to establish a new flour mill unit which will adopt same state of the art technology used in Turkey. We also want to increase our storage capacity by installing Silos in this new unit. Our business goal is that we want to target large food chains like McDonalds or K.F.C or Pizza Hut. Our goal is to become their supplier in this region.
Could you give some information also on the flour industry in your country and the consumption habits of your people? What is the position of Pakistan in the world in terms of using milling technologies, flour production amount, quality and consumption?
Flour industry is one of the biggest industries of Pakistan. There are almost 1000 Flour Mills only in the Punjab Province. Our country most population eats Rotti (CHAPATI made of Flour) three times a day. So there is a continuous demand of Flour throughout the year. We also have a association named as flour mill association to represent us. Our association has laboratories with modern testing equipment and their core responsibility is to check every Flour Mill’s samples, to make sure that that their product is healthy and in no way can damage human body. We are agriculture based country so our government is the biggest stock keeper of the wheat. Government supply wheat to Flour Mills on a regular basis. Flour Mills can also keep the stock of wheat.
What do you think about the future development of your country especially in terms of flour industry?
The future of flour industry is very bright in the Pakistan. The government of Pakistan fully supports the flour mill association. Most of the wheat produced in Pakistan is used to fulfill the consumption requirement of people. But our government is taking steps to increase the wheat production in the country so that we can also emerge as the exporter of wheat and flour in the international market.

We currently have automatic wheat cleaning and washing system. We also have automatic wheat grinding system. In future we want to adopt further new technologies like Automatic moisture control system and Automatic Color Sorter system. And for increasing our storage capacity we are currently working on installing silos.
