Global food commodity prices remained broadly stable in May, but cereal markets moved in the opposite direction as wheat, maize and rice quotations all increased, according to the latest data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

At HUBUDER’s Ankara conference, Türkiye’s grain, flour, pasta and bulgur sectors discussed the 2026 harvest outlook, with speakers pointing to stronger production prospects, high durum wheat stocks and a more comfortable supply picture.

The global initiative, led by the IGC and IMEAA Ecosystem, spotlighted innovative technology-driven solutions in grains trade digitalisation. The inaugural challenge awarded AgPulse, EdoxOnline and Javelot for their work in market intelligence, trade documentation, interoperability, grain storage and logistics optimisation.

At the 2026 IGC Grains Conference in London, speakers said ample wheat availability and large carryover stocks are changing buyer behaviour in global wheat trade.

Pulses are moving beyond their traditional role as staple foods, supported by demand for affordable protein, plant-based nutrition and functional ingredients.

Global grain markets are entering the 2026/27 season with broadly comfortable supply, but with far more complicated trade conditions.

İDMA İstanbul, which will bring together industry professionals from more than 100 countries, aims to contribute to a trade volume of $1 billion through new partnerships and investments.

Aykut Göymen, Chairman of the Turkish Pasta Industrialists Association, said Türkiye is expected to produce 4.1 million tons of durum wheat in the 2026/27 season, while high carryover stocks point to a comfortable supply outlook in the domestic market.

Erhan Özmen, one of the most respected figures in the Turkish flour industry, said Türkiye’s 2026 wheat outlook could mark a turning point for the country’s grain balance, with strong production prospects and sizeable carryover stocks raising the possibility that Türkiye may enter the ranks of wheat-exporting countries.
