FAO’s Statistical Yearbook 2025 reveals that while global cereal production has reached record levels, yield growth is slowing and trade dependency is intensifying.

The International Grains Council (IGC) raised its 2025/26 global grains forecast by 13 million tonnes to 2,425 million tonnes — nearly 100 million higher year-on-year, the strongest annual increase since 2016/17.

Another record harvest is expected for the global grains market in 2025/26, however, sentiment is far from uniformly bearish. Although overall supply and demand balances point to comfortable availabilities, each grain is showing its own dynamics.

Speaking at the IAOM Eurasia Conference & Expo 2025, AgResource CEO Dan Basse painted a bearish picture for global grain markets. Record wheat yields, a massive U.S. corn harvest, and steady soybean output have created an environment of oversupply, while demand growth has stagnated.
