Türkiye has been elected to the Council of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the organization’s key governing body, for the 2025–2028 term. Competing in the Europe regional group, Türkiye received 127 votes in the election where 141 countries cast ballots. France-Italy and Serbia-Ukraine joint candidacies were also elected, while Russia and Belarus were not.

Turkish Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı welcomed the outcome, expressing satisfaction with the election result. “We are determined to fulfill this responsibility in line with FAO’s core values: transparency, inclusiveness, and cooperation,” he said. “Throughout our term, we will continue to support interregional dialogue and efforts to generate joint solutions. We believe that by working together, we can help shape the future of global food systems.”

In a separate written statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted Türkiye’s deepening cooperation with FAO, citing the FAO Subregional Office for Central Asia in Ankara and the joint FAO–Türkiye Partnership Programmes. The statement underlined Türkiye’s commitment to multilateral cooperation and the UN’s Zero Hunger goal by 2030.
