Spanish silo pioneer SIMEZA celebrates 50 years with global partners in Zaragoza

28 October 20253 min reading

From its roots in Zaragoza to a global footprint spanning 45 countries, the Spanish silo manufacturer celebrates half a century of innovation, craftsmanship, and enduring partnerships.

SIMEZA, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of steel silo systems, celebrated its 50th anniversary with a series of events in Zaragoza, the city where the company was founded in 1975 as Silos Metálicos Zaragoza.

Miller Magazine, as an invited media guest, had the privilege of witnessing this remarkable celebration firsthand and engaging with the industry leaders who shaped and continue to shape SIMEZA’s story.

The milestone brought together more than 200 guests from across the world, including company founders Eduardo Pérez and Antonio López, long-serving employees, partners, clients, and representatives from industry and government — all united in honoring five decades of engineering excellence and global growth.

The day began with a cultural and gastronomic tour through Zaragoza’s historic center, allowing guests to experience the city’s rich history and vibrant flavors before gathering at the AURA Restaurant for the official evening ceremony.

The anniversary event was attended by the Vice President of the Government of Aragón, María Jesús Sariñena, Mayor of Utebo, Sofia Svensson, CEO of Tornum Group, Alberto Baena, CEO of SIMEZA, and many other distinguished guests.

SIMEZA’s founders and former leaders received commemorative plaques in recognition of their contributions, along with long-serving employees who have devoted decades to the company.

CONTINUING A LEGACY OF EXCELLENCE

“SIMEZA was born from steel, but its true strength lies in the people who have shaped it,”
said Sofia Svensson, CEO of Tornum Group, during her keynote address. “This is not just a factory; this is a community.”

For Alberto Baena, SIMEZA’s CEO, the anniversary marked both reflection and renewal: “Few companies reach fifty years, and few CEOs have the privilege of celebrating such a milestone,” he said. “What we are today is the result of the daily effort of everyone who has ever worked here. What we will become in the next fifty will depend on the effort of those of us who are here now.”

A STRATEGIC ALLIANCE FOR THE FUTURE

Since being acquired by Tornum Group in 2023, SIMEZA has gained new momentum through integration with the Swedish leader in grain drying and post-harvest technology.
The partnership combines Spanish engineering craftsmanship with Swedish innovation, creating a powerful platform for comprehensive grain-management solutions — from drying and handling to modular storage systems.

AN EVENING TO REMEMBER

As the sun set over Zaragoza’s Ebro River, the celebrations continued with music, conversation, and Spanish cuisine. Founders, team members, and guests from more than 45 countries gathered on the terrace of AURA Restaurant, exchanging memories and toasting to the company’s next chapter. The atmosphere was both joyful and heartfelt — a reflection of SIMEZA’s culture of professionalism, friendship, and deep respect for its people and partners.
