One fair, one forum and a sector in transition

The grain industry enters the new season with a notable contrast. Global supplies look relatively comfortable after a strong 2025/26 season, yet few market participants would describe the environment as easy. Freight routes remain vulnerable, input costs are volatile, financing is tighter, and food security is again being discussed in very practical terms: how grain can be sourced, moved, stored, processed and delivered reliably.

This is why IDMA 2026 deserves particular attention. The exhibition will open its doors in Istanbul on June 25–27, bringing together nearly 200 exhibitors from 20 countries and visitors from 120 countries across the grain and food processing value chain.

IDMA has always been closely associated with technology. Its halls bring together solutions for the grain processing industry. But the sector’s priorities are changing. Today, millers are looking beyond capacity alone, with efficiency, food safety, traceability, automation and energy use playing a growing role in investment decisions.

This year’s edition will also feature the IDMA Global Grain & Milling Forum, to be held alongside the exhibition on June 25–26 under the theme “Resilient Trade, Innovative Milling.” Bringing the expo and the forum together is meaningful. One will showcase the technologies shaping the future of processing; the other will address the forces shaping the future of grain trade.

Istanbul is the right place for this dialogue. Türkiye stands between the Black Sea, one of the world’s key grain export regions, and the Middle East and North Africa, among the most import-dependent wheat markets globally. It is also a major flour and pasta exporter and home to a strong milling machinery industry. This gives IDMA relevance beyond the exhibition floor.

This year’s IDMA will bring together technology, trade and strategic discussion as the grain business becomes more complex and interconnected. For all stakeholders in the grain, milling and food processing industries, Istanbul will offer a valuable opportunity to see new solutions, follow market trends, exchange ideas and build the partnerships that the next phase of the sector will require.

We invite our readers and industry partners to join us at IDMA 2026 and the IDMA Global Grain & Milling Forum this June.
