Egypt has put forth a proposal during the BRICS summit to establish a global grain storage center within its borders, as reported by Asharq Al-Awsat.

Egypt Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly stated on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Johannesburg that Egypt is prepared to host a global center for grain storage, aiming to contribute to resolving the global food crisis.

The proposal has garnered widespread support and attention, resonating with experts and officials alike. Egyptian parliamentarians and economists have hailed the nation's potential to undertake the role of hosting a global grain storage center. Nevin Al Tahri, Deputy of the Economic Committee in the Egyptian Parliament, emphasized to Asharq Al-Awsat that Egypt's existing capabilities, honed through the successful execution of the national silos project, render it well-equipped for this endeavor.

The national silos project has been a linchpin of Egypt's food security strategy. Through the construction of around 50 silos dispersed across 17 provinces, with a collective storage capacity of nearly 1.5 million tons, Egypt has demonstrated its capacity to overcome historic challenges in grain storage.
