Cimbria enhances storage and handling capacity at Polish grain terminals

Cimbria, a global leader in grain and seed storage and handling solutions, is currently spearheading two major port terminal projects in Poland, aimed at enhancing efficiency, capacity, and reliability in the grain industry.

As global markets shift, driven by increased demand from regions such as the Black Sea, the Middle East, and Brazil, Cimbria has observed a growing need for advanced port terminal solutions. “We are seeing strong interest in heavy-duty equipment capable of handling 1,000-1,500 tons per hour—nearly double the average capacity from a few years ago,” said Thomas Mohr, General Manager of Cimbria. “Our turnkey solutions ensure raw materials maintain their quality and value throughout the supply chain, making us a preferred partner for on-time project delivery.”

One of the ongoing projects is with HES Gdynia Bulk Terminal in Northeastern Poland. The expansion includes:

  • Increasing grain terminal intake capacity by 1,000 tons per hour
  • Constructing a 64,000-ton flat storage facility

This comprehensive solution features a customized intake system with weighing bridges, Moduflex dust-free loading chutes, an underground discharging system, and flexible, reversible conveyors.

“The new flat storage facility will be versatile, designed for both grain and soya meal storage, effectively future-proofing the warehouse,” explained Mateusz Olejniczak, Manager Cluster Sales Lead at Cimbria Poland.

Cimbria is also extending the Szczecin Bulk Terminal in Western Poland. The project includes:

  • Four silos with a combined capacity of nearly 28,000 tons
  • A ship loading line with an intake capacity of 1,000 tons per hour

This expansion includes intelligent temperature monitoring systems to maintain grain quality and prevent product loss. “We tailored this solution extensively to fit a limited space while ensuring maximum efficiency and quality preservation,” added Olejniczak.

Both the Gdynia and Szczecin projects are ATEX-certified and align with Cimbria’s mission to support global food security amid a growing population. The Gdynia terminal is set for completion by Q4 2024, while the Szczecin terminal will be finalized between 2024 and 2025. “These projects reflect our dedication to enhancing global food supply chains and delivering innovative, efficient solutions,” said Mohr.
