British Allied company expands Brisbane mill

As one of UK’s leading mills, Allied Mills announced that it will make 43 million-dollar expansion in its Brisbane mill.  Established by the joint venture of GrainCorp and Cargill, one of UK’s leading flour miller and baking products supplier Allied Mills has celebrated $43 million-expansion at its Brisbane mill with an official opening by Queensland Premier, Campbell Newman. The new mill and mixing plant now re-establishes Allied Mills’ production capacity in Queensland after a big setback in early 2011 when flash flooding ripped through the Darling Downs city of Toowoomba, inundating many parts of the central business precinct. Allied’s historic mill and mixing plant, and big volumes of grain and flour stocks, were badly damaged by the extreme weather event, which later led to significant flooding downstream in Brisbane. With its Toowoomba plant now out of action, the Tennyson facility has been substantially upgraded with a new hard wheat flour mill, new dry mixing facilities and a larger warehouse. Allied managing director Joe Di Leo said the big investment was enabling the company to maximize its service and efficiency standard for Queensland customers and support the local economy and job market. “This building project was essential for Allied Mills to respond to the flood devastation that left the Toowoomba site incapable of continuing to service our customers. We look forward to now having full capability to service Queensland customers directly from the Tennyson site and no longer requiring product from our interstate facilities. Our products are now 100 per cent made in Queensland for Queensland customers.” Mr. Di Leo said. Allied Mills is a 60-40 joint venture between GrainCorp and Cargill, formed 11 years ago. The company is a major flour and baking ingredients supplier to the food industry.
