Turkish companies which have a prominent place in mill machines are placed near the top of the second-hand market as well. Mungan Tarım, specialized in supplying of second hand flour mill machinery, aims to be a leading company in that field. General Manager of Mungan Tarım Mr. Selçuk Mungan, in an interview to Miller Magazine, advised flour producers to select companies that can stand behind their machines after the sale.
We talked with Selçuk Mungan about the company’s operations and the second-hand mill machinery market.
Could you give us information about your company, its areas of activity and services?
We have been providing service to our customer for a long time specializing in second-hand mill machines. Mainly, we are an export company. What we usually export is domestically produced Turkey origin machines. Sometimes, we may export the machines that were previously imported such as Bühler and Golfetto.
We sell second-hand machines and equipment used in all stages of flour production.
Mainly we buy roller mill, plansifter and purifiers. After a revision and all necessary maintenance are carried out, they became ready to be sold. Meanwhile, we bring machines that remained idle or that are in the closed down mill facilities back to the economy. We buy used machines from the flour industrialist and instead, we pave the way for the same industrialist to buy new machines from local machine producers. In this way, besides supporting domestic production, we are also happy to contribute to the export of our country.
Could you give us information about used milling machine market in the world and Turkey? What is the volume of this industry? Which countries come to the forefront in this market?
When we review the Trade Map data, mill machines and their spare parts have a substantial volume with $2 billion. China is the export champion of this sector. It is at the top of this market with $350 million. After China, Switzerland comes with $215 million and Turkey follows these countries with $210 million. And Italy is at the fourth place with $195 million. There has been little difference among the second, third and fourth countries in this list. In order to climb up, both our company and Turkish machine manufacturers have to work harder.
Do you sell most to domestic or foreign market?
Until 2016, exports constituted 80 percent of our turnover. However, in 2017 our domestic and foreign market sales reached almost the same size.
Is there any particular country that you focused on?
We mostly export to Asian countries and sometimes to African countries. However, we have an aim to add new markets during 2018. This year we will increase our market number by participating in domestic and abroad fairs.
Would you give us information on the renovation and maintenance technologies for second-hand machines?
Renovation and maintenance are very serious businesses. It requires daintiness and precision. Renovation and maintenance should not mean coloring and fixing here and there. We carry out renovation as if we will use these machines in our own flour facilities. Before we accept a machine into maintenance, firstly, we disassemble that machine till the smallest part. After we clean every rust and dirt, we repair any part that needs to be fixed; we change the parts which cannot be fixed. When we change a part, we change it with the best part of the market. That is, we don’t buy the cheapest product to change the broken part. Following necessary repair and change, if that machine needs to be painted, we carry out this with the highest quality and properly. After all these operations, we test the machine and add it to our sale portfolio. We carry out a test for each machine we sell.
